protocol how to stay motivated and not quit

I love failure! Because for every time I got on stage and stunk, for every activity I tried and sucked at or for each time I attempted something new and got my junk handed to me I tried. And because I tried I have a lot of fun memories that are actually really funny that would never have happened if I had only stayed safe. Some of my funnies memoirs are from moments that I failed. Plus, they all gave me the confidence to keep going and succeed.

1. Set Up A Protocol For Failure

We all fail sometimes, but if you don’t have a system in place or a protocol for when things get hard and the sh*t hits the fan then it will feel like a like a mountain of effort to start over or to pick yourself back up. By setting up a protocol for failure you have something that will kick-in right when you feel like there is nothing you can do. The hardest part is mindset. Once your brain starts dipping into sad mode you have officially let go of motivation. Now, this is where your protocol kicks in.

What is a protocol? A protocol is just a series of actions, activities or behavior that will let you take the time you need to lick your wounds, pout, heal or take a break while you take steps to re-ignite your own fire. The best protocols will be 1) easy, 2) simple, 3) short delay that leads you back to your goal.

Here is an example: something happens this is the trigger that makes you feel sad, unmotivated or helpless.

Enter the protocol:

1) take time to pout

2) do something self indulgent

3) take just 1 step towards goal

For example, a project failed at work. Take a break and go for a walk. Come back and do something indulgent like get a treat, go grab a yummy coffee or tea, get your nails done etc. Next, think of just 1 thing that will alter your original outcome. What did you learn? How can you change a detail that would make it work next time?

Staying motivated and committed to your goals can be challenging, but with a well-defined protocol and effective strategies, you can overcome obstacles and stay on track. Here’s a protocol for staying motivated and not quitting:

  1. Set Clear and Achievable Goals: Begin by setting clear, specific, and achievable goals that align with your aspirations. Break down your larger goals into smaller, manageable tasks, making them easier to accomplish and track progress along the way.

  2. Create a Vision Board: Visualize your goals and dreams by creating a vision board that reflects your aspirations. Include images, quotes, and affirmations that inspire and motivate you to stay focused on your objectives, reminding you of the rewards that await you upon completion.

  3. Establish a Routine: Establish a daily or weekly routine that incorporates dedicated time for working towards your goals. By scheduling specific blocks of time for your tasks, you create a sense of structure and accountability, making it easier to stay motivated and avoid procrastination.

  4. Find Your Why: Identify the underlying reasons why you’re pursuing your goals and what motivates you to succeed. Whether it’s achieving personal fulfillment, making a difference, or realizing your potential, connecting with your intrinsic motivations will fuel your determination and resilience during challenging times.

  5. Seek Support and Accountability: Surround yourself with a supportive network of friends, family, mentors, or peers who encourage and uplift you on your journey. Share your goals with them, and enlist their support and accountability to keep you motivated and accountable for your progress.

  6. Celebrate Small Wins: Acknowledge and celebrate your accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem. By celebrating your progress and achievements along the way, you reinforce positive behaviors and build momentum towards your larger goals.

  7. Stay Positive and Practice Self-Compassion: Cultivate a positive mindset and practice self-compassion, especially during setbacks or moments of doubt. Recognize that challenges are a natural part of the journey, and embrace them as opportunities for growth and learning rather than reasons to give up.

  8. Stay Flexible and Adapt: Be open to adjusting your approach and strategies as needed to overcome obstacles and stay on course towards your goals. Stay flexible and adaptable in the face of adversity, seeking alternative solutions and pathways to success when necessary.

  9. Visualize Success: Regularly visualize yourself achieving your goals and experiencing the fulfillment and satisfaction that comes with success. By vividly imagining your desired outcomes, you reinforce your commitment and motivation to persevere through challenges and obstacles.

  10. Reflect and Reevaluate: Take time to reflect on your progress and reassess your goals periodically. Evaluate what’s working well and what needs adjustment, and make any necessary changes to your approach to ensure continued growth and progress towards your aspirations.

By following this protocol and implementing these strategies, you can cultivate resilience, motivation, and determination to stay committed to your goals and overcome obstacles on your journey to success. Remember, consistency, perseverance, and self-belief are key to achieving your dreams and realizing your fullest potential.

2. Have a Plan

Really well organized and well researched plans rarely fail. Why? Because they took into consideration different possible scenarios and make adjustment. Put a plan in place for your worst case scenarios and you’ll almost have a way to see and predict the future.

3. Failure Means You Tried

I really love this idea of failure because we all tend to think that failure is somehow permanent and all encompassing. Instead, try to image it as just a set-back or a launching point for the next success that is inevitable on its way. For every no, you’ll get a yes. For every fail you’ll get a win.
