Hi, I am Sasha and I’ve been working with animals professionally since 2007.
There is something incredibly special about working with shelter and rescue animals. They often arrive carrying more than we can see. Some have experienced neglect, abandonment, fear, sudden changes, or simply the stress of not knowing what will happen next. Even when we do not know their complete history, we can often see the effects in their behavior and energy.
This is one of the reasons I believe energy healing can be such a beautiful supportive tool for rescue animals.
Energy healing is not about “fixing” an animal or replacing veterinary care, training, medication, or behavioral support. Instead, I see it as another way of offering an animal a quiet, compassionate space where they can begin to settle and feel safe.
When I work with an animal energetically, I am not asking them to perform, respond, or even interact with me. I am simply creating an opportunity for them to receive. This can be especially helpful for animals who are frightened, overwhelmed, elderly, recovering from difficult circumstances, or unsure about trusting people.
One of the most important lessons animals have taught me is that healing does not always look the way we expect.
A nervous dog may move away from you instead of coming closer. A cat may choose to remain hidden. Another animal may become sleepy and relaxed. Some animals seem curious and want to participate, while others clearly communicate that they would prefer space.
I believe respecting those choices is part of the healing process.
For shelter and rescue organizations, energy healing can also be offered in a way that fits naturally alongside existing care. A Reiki practitioner, for example, might work with animals individually in a quiet area, or provide gentle distance sessions when direct contact would create additional stress.
The goal is not to force an experience. The goal is to offer calm, connection, and support.
There is also something healing for us when we work with rescue animals. These animals remind us that trust can be rebuilt one small step at a time. They teach us to slow down, listen differently, and recognize communication that does not come through words.
If you are interested in learning energy healing for animals, you do not necessarily have to begin with the idea that you are going to become a professional healer. You can begin simply because you love animals and want another tool for supporting them.
You can learn to work with your own companion animals, volunteer with a rescue organization, or eventually develop this into a larger animal healing practice.
Most importantly, approach every animal with respect. Ask for permission through their body language. Allow them to choose. Work alongside their existing medical and behavioral care. And remember that sometimes the most powerful thing we can offer an animal is simply our calm presence.
Animals have their own wisdom about healing.
